UK supermarket chain ASDA is now offering an entirely plant-based patty melt as an alternative to similar options that are traditionally paired with meat and cheese. These alternative melts features patties formed from spinach, shredded beetroot, balsamic vinegar and sunflower seeds, which are used to sandwich sections of dairy-free cheese—made from a coconut oil base that aims to replicate goat's cheese. Each of the ASDA Extra Special Beetroot & Spinach Melts provides a source of fiber and more than five grams of plant-based protein.
Like ASDA, a number of food retailers in the UK are upping the amount of plant-based products that they sell not just for vegans and vegetarians but also curious meat eaters who are willing to try new options.
