In an effort to reduce employee turnover, fast casual restaurant chain Chipotle Mexican Grill is offering new part-time benefits. Under its new policy, Chipotle will be offering paid vacation days, sick pay as well as student tuition reimbursement. Recruitment Strategy Manager JD Cummings told Restaurant News "We want to invest in the best people we have and to keep them with us."
Before boosting part-time benefits, Chipotle offered the same perks to salaried workers. Extending them to wage-based employees is a move to attract and retain high school and college students for their entry-level roles. Out of the company's 53,000 employees, 48,500 are hourly workers. This will go into effect starting July 1.
This strategy also follows in the footsteps of Starbucks after their announcement to cover four year tuition costs at Arizona State University.
