Panapp is an ice cream dessert from Japan that doesn't seem as sweet as you might think. The vanilla, fruit and chocolate varieties of ice cream are packaged in a cup and injected with syrup. Most often, this happens in the shape of a smiley face, which looks to be a nice treat to find upon first digging into the dessert.
However, as the ice cream melts, the faces become more and more terrifying. Whether or not this was Panapp's intention from the start, sculptors and food artists are having a lot of fun with this in Japan. In order to make the scary ice cream remnants even more terrifying, creative ice cream eaters are carving out details to make the horrifying faces even more pronounced. It remains to be seen whether or not Panapp will continue to encourage customers to play with their food, although this has become what the ice cream brand is known best for.
