The Orville Redenbacher Shows Movies Can’t Go On Witho

We were never told why popcorn goes with TV and movies, but a new ad by Orville Redenbacher reinforces the idea that nothing on the screen can go on without popcorn.
In one ad, titled “Kick Off,” an entire stadium watching a college football game, filled with painted-covered fans, bands and cheerleading squads, is eerily put on hold as a popping noise in the background of a bag of popcorn heats up in the microwave. All eyes are set on the stadium’s big screen as a man appears, hesitantly, assuring the crowd that “It’ll just be a second.” When a marching band member asks a fellow what is going on, the other replies, “Orville, my man.”
In another, titled “No Time to Spare,” a scene of an accident—with a smoldering, flipped over car, bored paramedics and a person trapped underneath—all appear calm and nonchalant as a woman cooking up a pack of Orville Rdenbacher popcorn says, “It’s almost done.” A firefighter replies, “Take your time.” As soon as the two packs are finished cooking and ripped open, the action resumes.
