Ascletis Pharma is advancing oral GLP-1 diabetes treatments with positive Phase II results for ASC30, an investigational tablet designed to manage blood sugar and support weight reduction. Unlike injectable therapies, the medication is taken once daily, offering a potential alternative for people with type 2 diabetes.
The 13-week U.S. study involved 100 participants and demonstrated placebo-adjusted HbA1c reductions of 1.6% to 1.7% across three dosage groups. Participants also experienced weight reductions ranging from 3.8% to 4.4% compared with placebo. No participants discontinued because of gastrointestinal side effects, and researchers reported no drug-related serious adverse events or liver safety concerns.
For Ascletis, these findings support further clinical development and expand ASC30's potential beyond obesity treatment. If future trials confirm its effectiveness and safety, the medication could strengthen the company's pharmaceutical portfolio and provide patients with another oral treatment option.
