Needle-Free Peptide Therapies

Insu Develops Cheek-Adhering Insulin and GLP-1 Treatments

Insu Therapeutics is advancing needle-free peptide therapies through its investigational InsuTab and BuccaGLP formulations, designed to deliver insulin and semaglutide without injections. The technology uses layered tablets that attach to the inner cheek, releasing medication toward surrounding tissue for absorption. Unlike swallowed treatments, the approach bypasses gastrointestinal absorption and reportedly requires no fasting or dietary restrictions around dosing. A recent U.S. patent allowance strengthens protection for the delivery system, following laboratory, cell-culture, and animal research conducted at the University of British Columbia.

The development creates potential opportunities for Insu and strategic investor Hydreight within the pharmaceutical market. Hydreight holds U.S. distribution rights and operates healthcare infrastructure connecting providers, pharmacies, and patients nationwide. Successful development could support future licensing agreements and commercial partnerships. However, both formulations remain unapproved, with further testing required to establish their safety and effectiveness.
