The new internet boom is in the 50+ segment of internet users. Accordingly, Monster.com founder Jeff Taylor is launching a new portal aimed at that market. He described, "All of those boomers who first started using Monster are now turning 50. Ten thousand people are turning 50 every day."
Implications - Few Internet startups take older users into consideration when developing their marketing or their services, so initiatives like this are a fantastic example of how businesses can look to under-appreciated demographics in order to discover new market niches. By having the ingenuity to think outside the box, ideas such as this demonstrate the value of going where no other company has gone before in order to succeed.
