Transforming Timber Seating

The OKA Chair Series Explores Ergonomic Movement

A stiff and stationary object isn't always what your mobile body needs, and the OKA Chair Series by Reinier de Jong aims to model the motions of seeking comfort in a seat.

Three separate pieces make up the collection and each behaves in a slightly different way. Wooden chair number one explores the action of settling into a relining position, by which the seat extends outwards to accommodate the legs, the backrest angles down, and the overall height of the seat lowers. Number two is bound by an elastic loom which gives out as the user sits back. Finally, number three of the OKA Chair Series makes a complete rotation from from the position of a task chair into an inclined lounger.
