NTL HEALTHCARE is proposing its CerviCARE AI software for hospitals and clinics in South Africa. The system analyses cervical images directly on a device, so it can work without an internet connection, and delivers results in around five seconds. It is designed to help guide care after a positive human papillomavirus (HPV) test, supporting assessment, referrals, treatment and follow-up rather than replacing HPV testing or a clinician's judgement.
The company has worked in cervical screening since 1996 and says its technology has been used across more than eight million cases. A 2024 paper published in Scientific Reports reported 98% sensitivity for detecting high-grade lesions. The software is already supplied in more than 20 countries.
In South Africa, the next steps include local validation, hospital pilot programmes and regulatory discussions. Its offline capabilities could make it easier for healthcare providers to test the technology in settings with limited internet access.

What Makes This Trend Stand Out
- Offline Medical AI
- Device-based analysis creates room for diagnostic tools that function reliably in low-connectivity care environments.
- Point-of-care Screening
- Rapid on-site results highlight opportunities for compressed care pathways that reduce delays between testing, referral and treatment.
- Clinician-supported Automation
- AI systems positioned as decision support introduce new models for augmenting specialist judgment without fully replacing clinical oversight.
Sectors Adopting This
- Digital Health
- Offline-capable software expands the market for healthcare technologies designed around infrastructure constraints in emerging regions.
- Women’s Health
- Cervical cancer screening innovations point to growth potential in accessible, earlier-stage interventions for underserved populations.
- Medical Devices
- Embedded diagnostic intelligence is reshaping device value by combining imaging hardware, analytics and workflow support at the point of care.
