Inspired by dot sights used in modern firearms, the Nikon DF-M1 is a new viewfinder peripheral meant to help guide photographers using super telephoto lenses. Designed with the 125x zoom of the Coolpix P1000 in mind, the dot sight Nikon DF-M1 is also compatible with any Nikon camera with a hot shoe. Unlike built-in viewfinders, this dot sight doesn't view through the lens and is instead focused on giving photographers the ability to track moving objects accurately without using the viewfinder.
Expected to retail at $175, the Nikon DF-M1 may resemble a firearm sight but cannot be used on any actual weapons. The sight does not offer any sort of magnification, nor is it shock-resistant. Instead, the sight is purely there to enhance a photographer's vision when tracking moving objects at a distance.
