The New Atlanta Stadium, to be shared between the NFL's Atlanta Falcons and the city's new MLS team, will feature a unique eight-piece interlocking retractable roof. What makes this retractable roof a one-of-a-kind feature is the fact that it doesn't merely consist of two sides that slide shut together. Rather, it is made up of eight large sections that rotate and interlock, closing like a camera shutter.
The size of the roof's opening can be controlled to let in the perfect amount of light to highlight and frame the playing field.
The New Atlanta Stadium will also be equipped with an 18-meter high 360-degree video board as well as a floor-to-ceiling window offering views of Atlanta. It is scheduled to open for the 2017 NFL season.
