Net-Zero Residences

The Gillian Gillies Net Zero Ready Home is a Sustainable Family Residence

The Gillian Gillies Net Zero Ready Home combines passive house construction with warm, residential interiors through a collaboration between Gillian Gillies, Dewson Architects, and Cliff & Evans. Located in Toronto's Leaside neighborhood, the four-story home incorporates carefully engineered air and moisture control systems to maintain year-round comfort while using natural materials such as white oak, walnut, and wool throughout the interior. Floral wallcoverings, textured tile, and a palette of greens, blues, yellow, and red introduce character across spaces tailored to everyday family living.

Communal areas include a double-sided living room sofa, a floating window seat, and custom interiors designed to encourage gathering and relaxation. Architectural and decorative lighting is controlled through a Lutron HomeWorks system, while sculptural fixtures from Lambert & Fils and Gabriel Scott complement vintage Brazilian furniture and Oaxacan woven baskets by pairing high-performance building principles with tactile materials and layered furnishings.
