Nechiswa Spiral Vase Pencil Holder is a Downloadable 3d-Print Accessory

Designer Nechiswa has created a spiral vase pencil holder that explores the visual possibilities of vase-mode 3D printing. Shared as a free download on Printables, the design is produced through a continuous extrusion process in which the printer follows a single uninterrupted path from the base to the top of the object. The resulting form features thin, faceted walls that maintain enough rigidity to hold pens and pencils while emphasizing the layered geometry created during fabrication. Rather than concealing the printing process, the design turns it into a defining aesthetic feature.

The pencil holder is intended for production using vase mode with a 0.6-millimeter line width and 0.2-millimeter layer height. Multi-color filament creates shifting tones across the spiral surface, allowing the appearance of the object to change depending on lighting conditions and viewing angle. The model has gained attention within the maker community and has been added to more than 130 collections on Printables.

Aestheticized Manufacturing
The design foregrounds printing artifacts as a deliberate visual language that redefines product desirability beyond traditional finishes.
Single-path Fabrication
Continuous-extrusion vase-mode techniques enable rapid, material-efficient objects with complex surface geometry produced in one uninterrupted toolpath.
Programmable Color Gradients
Multi-color filament and layer-timing create dynamic tonal shifts that make color appearance dependent on viewing angle and lighting.

Where This Applies

Consumer Desk Accessories
Low-cost downloadable designs and single-print processes allow unique, customizable desktop products that emphasize crafted appearance over mass-manufactured uniformity.
3D Printing Platforms
Community-shared downloadable models and collection-driven discovery are reshaping platform value by prioritizing remixable, aesthetic-led content libraries.
Educational Makerspaces
Simple parameter-driven prints with visible fabrication teach design and materials literacy while enabling students to experiment with form, color, and process.
