Prior to President-elect Joe Biden's upcoming inauguration ceremony, The Presidential Inaugural Committee led the installation of a patriotic art display called the 'Field of Flags.'
The installation is meant to represent the many Americans who will not be able to attend the event in-person due to COVID-19 safety measures. The art displays features a total of 200,000 American flags, which are shown alongside "56 pillars of light to symbolize all 50 states and US territories."
Tony Allen, a representative of the Presidential Inaugural Committee, spoke to the relevance of the installation as well as the upcoming ceremony, stating "It is time to turn the page on this era of division. The inaugural activities will reflect our shared values and serve as a reminder that we are stronger together than we are apart, just as our motto 'e pluribus unum' reminds us—out of many, one."
