To celebrate National Donut Day 2016, Krispy Kreme will be giving away free donuts on Friday, June 3rd. The promotion not only gives customers a chance to get their hands on a free pastry, but it also helps to support the work of The Salvation Army.

National Donut Day was originally celebrated by The Salvation Army in 1938 as a way of honoring the work of the 'Donut Lassies' who sold sweet treats to soldiers during the First World War. These women are often credited with helping to popularize donuts in the US following the end of the war, making them an important part of culinary history.

This year, Krispy Kreme is celebrating National Donut Day 2016 by giving customers the opportunity to pick up a free donuts of their choice at participating locations. While no purchase is required to claim a free donut, Krispy Kreme will be encouraging donations to The Salvation Army.
