Experimental chef and blogger Dude Foods recently gave the conventional Monte Christo sandwich an unconventional twist by turning it into little deep fried balls topped with powdered sugar and jam. These bite-sized fried version of the sandwich offers an upscale twist making them an ideal snack to serve at parties.
Traditionally a Monte Christo sandwich features a ham and cheese sandwich that has been pan-seared and sometimes is topped with sugar and served with a side of jam. These deep fried balls cleverly turn the sandwich into a bite-sized serving. The appetizers are made with slices of crustless bread that are rolled into balls with Gruyere cheese and cubed ham. The balls are covered in an egg white wash before being fried, covered in powdered sugar and served alongside a jam of your choice.
