Major League Baseball announced a new partnership with the France-based web3 sports company 'Sorare' in order to create an NFT-based fantasy sports game inspired by 'MLB Champions.' MLB Champions is an NFT-based fantasy baseball game where players would collect and trade NFTs that represent various MLB players. According to MLB, the game was too convoluted and inaccessible for the public to enjoy.
MLB will use the information it gained from MLB Champions, combined with Sorare's knowledge of blockchain-based sports entertainment properties, to create an all-new, easy-to-use play-to-earn fantasy sports title. The NFTs in this game are inspired by baseball trading cards, and each card NFT will be a unique collectible. Individuals will be able to participate in fantasy sports leagues, discuss baseball, and trade cards with one another. MLB and Sorare stated that the game will be ready to launch in the summer of 2022.
