The Minimoog Model D is one of the most iconic synthesizers ever made, and can be heard in songs by Michael Jackson, Nine Inch Nails and Dr. Dre, but the price tag is often out of range for hobbyists and most musicians. Fortunately, Moog -- the company behind the synthesizer -- has released the Minimoog Model D app for iOS. While the physical version of the synthesizer can cost over $3,000, the app only comes in at $4.99 and is an incredibly faithful representation of the influential synthesizer.
The design of the app is almost identical to the physical appearance of the instrument, but instead of twisting knobs, users only need to tap them. The 44-key keyboard can be adjusted up and down to reach the correct octave and can even be connected to a physical keyboard via Bluetooth. Moog has also included preset songs into the app to give users the ability to learn and understand how the oscillators, mixer, filters and other features can be manipulated to create sound.
