It's a simple premise really â€" get a black cab, get an up and coming band/artist and a video camera, drive around while they play and then post the resulting footage online. Et voila: the Black Cab Sessions.
Essentially focusing attention from bombastic impersonal stage shows, it's all about the music and providing a carefully curated, intimate, up close and personal experience that viewers would never otherwise get. Recent cabees are across the board stylistically, including The National, New Pornographers, poet Benjamin Zephaniah, Vincent Vincent and The Villains, Killa Kela and many more.
Conceived by gig promoters Hidden Fruit and production company Just So Films it's another nice example of how ever cheaper filming equipment is democratizing the entertainment business and the internet is providing a cheap platform for it. Brilliant.
