Portable Writing Devices

Micro Journal Rev.6.1 Mini is Distraction-Free Writing with Cloud Backup

Micro Journal Rev.6.1 Mini is a dedicated writing device created by South Korean maker Un Kyu Lee for users who want a focused typing environment without traditional computer software. Built around an ESP32 microcontroller, the handheld unit opens directly to a text editor and omits web browsers, operating systems and background notifications. The latest version adopts a clamshell design that protects both the display and keyboard during transport, giving the compact device a notebook-like form factor.

The 3D-printed enclosure contains a 48-key ortholinear mechanical keyboard fitted with Kailh hot-swap sockets, allowing users to change switches without soldering. A color display presents text, while an internal 18650 battery provides portable operation and recharges through USB-C. Text files automatically sync to a connected Google Drive account over Wi-Fi for backup and storage. Lee assembles each unit by hand in Seogwipo on Jeju Island rather than through large-scale manufacturing.
