Color-Led Apartment Designs

Almaty Family Apartment Balances Sage Tones with Custom Interiors

The Almaty Family Apartment is a 150-square-metre residence in Kazakhstan designed by Fariz Mamedov of FM Interiors Design Bureau for a family of five. The project reorganizes an originally open-plan layout into distinct public and private zones while retaining a generous central living space.

A sage-green palette serves as the visual foundation of the interior, appearing throughout the kitchen, doors, trim and architectural details. Red, blue and yellow accents introduce contrast across communal and children's spaces, while mirrored columns and ceiling cornices help integrate the building's structural beams and columns into the overall design.

The kitchen, dining and living areas form a connected gathering space for family activities, with bedrooms positioned beyond glass doors for greater privacy. Materials include French herringbone parquet, natural textiles, ceramic tile, rattan, raffia, wool, cotton, silk, wood and metal.

Furnishings were sourced from brands including Saba Italia, Gubi, Louis Poulsen, Thonet, Fritz Hansen, &Tradition, Potocco and HAY, alongside custom cabinetry, benches and vanities produced locally. A custom rug based on Mamedov's sketches was manufactured in India as part of the apartment's layered interior scheme.
