The 'Rumtid' collection is the latest offering by megastore IKEA and it consists of four product ranges of micro home furniture. Compact and versatile, the items are perfect for tiny dwellings. The inspiration for the pieces is quite interesting, as well. The IKEA micro home furniture is informed by space. The megastore conducted studies at the NASA Mars Desert Research Station in Utah, where it explored the possibilities, limitation and potential necessities of future living spaces. Each of the four designs of micro home furniture explore a select issue — from time and space to water and air.
IKEA's first three prototypes were revealed at the Democratic Design Days conference. The line-up consists of an air purifier, a tiny indoor garden and "a new super-lightweight material" that can serve a variety of home needs.
