Finnish Sculptor Miina Äkkijyrkkä Mixes Agriculture and Art Culture

Finnish artist Miina Äkkijyrkkä has an amazing collection of junked cars transformed into gigantic metal cows at her farm, near Helsinki.

Miina Äkkijyrkkä, a controversial Finnish sculptor, is known for her love of the Finncattle, the native Finnish dairy breed and her gigantic metal cows that raised many debates as they were bringing agriculture as a theme to the Finnish contemporary art scene. Äkkijyrkkä has remained true to her artistic credo for decades, and carried on mixing visual arts with cattle-raising.

Apart from the metal cows, which were created at a majestic scale from automobile parts, she explored the theme of cows in various artistic disciplines, such as bronze statues, drawings and photography.

She received a State Art Award from the Finish Minister of Culture for her courageous, non-mainstream artistic activity.
