Handwoven Rug Series

Meridian Collection Features Rugs Crafted from Wool and Jute Fibres

The Meridian collection is a series of nine handwoven rugs created by Australian brand Armadillo and produced by artisans in India. The collection emphasizes natural fibres, subtle tonal variation, and textured surfaces rather than bold colour palettes. Designs range from flat-weave constructions to cut pile and looped styles, using materials including New Zealand wool, Afghan wool, and Indian jute. Variations in texture and appearance are achieved through differences in fibre selection, weaving techniques, and construction methods.

One of the collection’s featured designs is Selva, a flat-weave rug inspired by traditional kilim rugs. The design uses three distinct hanks of Afghan wool yarn to create a patchwork-like effect across the surface. Selva is available in Desert, Silt, Walnut, and undyed Oat colourways and is finished with a colour-matched cotton fringe.

Natural Fiber Minimalism
Subdued palettes and renewable fibers signal a shift toward premium home goods where material authenticity becomes a differentiator over decorative excess.
Artisan-produced Textiles
Handwoven production methods connect global craft communities with contemporary design markets, creating space for traceable, small-batch furnishings with cultural depth.
Texture-led Interior Design
Layered weaves, pile variations, and tactile surfaces are redefining rugs as sensory design elements that compete through feel as much as appearance.

Sectors Adopting This

Home Furnishings
Rug and décor brands are increasingly positioned around craftsmanship, provenance, and natural materials as consumers seek quieter alternatives to mass-produced interiors.
Sustainable Materials
Wool, jute, and undyed fibers illustrate growing demand for biodegradable inputs that can support lower-impact product development in premium design categories.
Luxury Interiors
Understated artisanal collections expand the meaning of luxury toward restraint, texture, and handmade irregularity rather than overt branding or high-gloss finishes.
