Snøhetta and Ege Carpets Design the MATTER Collection

— August 29, 2025 — Art & Design
The MATTER Collection of flat-woven carpets brings generative design into soft furnishings, merging algorithmic randomness with traditional Scandinavian craft. Snøhetta creates it in collaboration with Ege Carpets; each rug is generated by code and woven as a unique landscape in recycled yarn. As project lead Francesca Giulia Poli explains, “From code to pixel, pixel to thread, and thread to carpet, each step was an exploration of how micro‑scale decisions could shape the overall feel of a space.”

Crafted using Ege’s advanced flatweave technology, the collection resists repetition by honoring natural unpredictability. Two palettes—one muted beige and gray, the other saturated blues and greens—offer versatility while maintaining cohesion. The materials and process support sustainability through waste minimization and durability, with each carpet offering subtle shifts in pattern as one moves through a room. Matter rugs act as living surfaces, weaving together digital precision, material responsibility, and spatial depth.
