DNA-Inspired Structures

Denmark's Latest 'Marsk Watchtower' Attracts Visitors to Its National Park

Architecture studio BIG has unveiled its latest creation, a spiraling double-helix structure, otherwise known as the Marsk Watchtower. This newly built structure was designed to attract tourists to the Wadden Sea National Park, inviting them to experience striking 25-meter-high views.

The structure sits within a popular camping site, Marsk Camp, surrounded by UNESCO World Heritage-listed marshland. This new structure adds tourist attraction to the already popular destination. Marsk Watchtower is made of Corten steel and is designed to mimic human DNA's double helix formation. The structure's base begins at seven meters wide and expands to 12 meters at the very top platform. It features an ascending and descending staircase, as well as an elevator to provide accessible access.

The tall design completely contrasts its surrounding flat marshland - creating a distinguished visual display.
