'Mario Time' Introduces Nintendo's Hero to Google Maps

Nintendo and Google have partnered to celebrate Mario, the universally beloved adventure hero, by adding a new feature called 'Mario Time' into certain navigation features for Google Maps. Starting March 10th (which Nintendo has dubbed Mario Day because 'Mar. 10' looks close enough to the Italian plumber's name) and running through the week, the normal blue navigation arrow that marks one's vehicle in during trips can be replaced with a graphic of Mario driving his signature go-kart.

Mario Time won't be activated automatically. To get Mario on one's phone, users need to tap the familiar yellow question box beside the 'START' button on Google Maps, which then brings up a short Mario Time message and exhorts users to start their trip with a very Mario-esque 'Let's-a go!'

Google's official Twitter account hinted at the promotion before its announcement, posting a picture from Street View with augmented reality bananas strewn around.
