With the goal of making guests "feel they are in Cairo," chef Maha Basoom and her homey brunch spot Maha's is changing the face of Egyptian cuisine in Toronto. With offerings ranging from soul-soothing lentil soup to honey cardamon lattes, the cozy spot has something for nearly everyone.
Maha's is a lively brunch spot located in Toronto's east end. The restaurant itself is covered in plants and artwork that features intriguing Egyptian touches such as delicate papyrus images. The same Egyptian theme carried through to the menu, which is bursting with Mediterranean flavors and Ottoman spices. Some of the standout dishes include Shakshuka, the Basturma Scramble and the Cairo Classic -- which is a take on a traditional Egyptian breakfast. The restaurant even offers fresh yellow dates at the end end of the meal to make diners feel as though they have truly been transported to Northeast Africa.
