Zilla van den Born Devises a Prank to Explore Reality Presented on Social Media

Social media networks including Facebook and Instagram have created a space for people to present their ideal reality to the world; Zilla van den Born created a fairly elaborate prank that involved a made up vacation to drive home this point. Taking it to the extreme, she shows just how easily friends and followers can be fooled into believing someone is leading the perfect life by Photoshopping her 'vacation album.'

Created for a university project, the made up vacation culminated when she captured the expressions of her family and friends when the learned the truth of her deception. Some were rightly outraged as she was supposedly on a five-week vacation in Southeast Asia when she was actually at home the entire time.
