Three Wheeled Compact from Berlin

— June 21, 2008 — Autos
The Technical University of Berlin has designed a three-wheeled car called CLEVER or Compact Low Emission Vehicle. It is an urban transport that runs on compressed natural gas and gets 188 miles per gallon. The car measures 10'L x 3.3'W x 4.4'H and will cost $10,000 when it is produced.

An inherent problem with vehicles designed like this three-wheeler, is tipping while cornering. The design engineers solved this problem with a clever (no pun intended) built-in lean. The same thing motorcyclists do during cornering.

Trend Themes

  1. Low Emission — Reducing emissions in automotive design by utilizing alternative fuels.
  2. Compact Design — Designing smaller and more efficient vehicles for urban transportation.
  3. Built-in Lean — Incorporating leaning technology in vehicle design to prevent tipping while cornering.

Industry Implications

  1. Automotive — Manufacturing and designing vehicles that prioritize low emissions and compact size.
  2. Alternative Fuel — Developing and implementing innovative fuel solutions to reduce carbon emissions.
  3. Transportation — Creating efficient and safe transportation options for urban environments with built-in stability features.
