G-Star Opts for Baggy Hemlines for Fall 2009
Christina Butty — May 19, 2009 — Fashion
For Fall 2009, G-Star presented a less energetic but fashion forward show. Featuring low crotches on many of the pants, for both men and women, the show certainly had its moments of whimsy.
To conclude the show Benicio Del Toro did a reading of Joy Division’s “Candidate” to the confusion of spectators. Overall, a fun show and a good time.
Implications - In contrast to the tightly tailored fashion of seasons past, collections released during the recession reflected a distinct lack of attention to personalized alterations. Dropped crotches, belted waistbands and elongated hemlines are some of the manifestations of this fashion theme; some designers pushed the envelope even further to embrace dystopian, post-apocalyptic influences.
