The Loop marble calendar is a rotating desk object designed by Elif Karaca that tracks the date through two concentric rings carved from contrasting stone tones. The inner ring, in dark marble, represents the months. The outer ring, in a lighter stone, tracks the days and requires a manual turn to advance the date. The mechanism draws from the orbital relationship between the Earth and the Moon.
The calendar requires no replacement pages and generates no packaging waste at the end of each year. The marble rings carry the same numbers and months indefinitely, with the owner rotating them back to the start each January. Karaca's use of marble also responds to a material waste problem in stone processing, where only 25 to 30 percent of extracted natural stone becomes usable product. Each piece carries natural veining and texture that makes it visually distinct.

Trend Themes
-
Perpetual Analog Objects — A resurgence of durable, non-digital timekeepers that prioritize longevity and sensory interaction as alternatives to disposable consumer electronics, enabling products that remain functional and relevant across years.
-
Material Waste Upcycling — Increasing attention to reclaiming offcuts and low-yield fractions from stone and other industries, creating distinctive-product narratives from materials previously considered waste.
-
Tactile Temporal Design — Designs that translate celestial or mechanical systems into tangible, manual interfaces for tracking time, emphasizing ritual, craft and emotional attachment over automated convenience.
Industry Implications
-
Home Decor and Lifestyle — A segment where high-value, long-lasting objects with natural variation can redefine product lifecycles and consumer expectations around permanence and sustainability.
-
Stone Processing and Materials — An industry facing pressure to monetize yield-loss and embed traceable, high-margin applications for remnants and nonstandard cuts to reduce quarry-level waste.
-
Corporate Gifts and Branded Merchandise — A market for bespoke, durable desk objects that leverages material uniqueness and longevity to replace single-use promotional items with enduring brand touchpoints.
