The Lexus Fashion Workshop Tasks Designers With Reusing Car Parts

Four fashion designers have been recruited by Lexus to participate in the Lexus Fashion Workshop, a challenge that requires them to create fashion apparel out of auto parts. Items crafted from the campaign will appear in the January 2012 issue of Vogue.

For the Lexus Fashion Workshop, the designers used more than 2,000 individual parts of a completely dismantled Lexus CT hybrid, says Popsop. (The Lexus CT hybrid is actually 90 percent recyclable itself.) The four designers tasked with the job were Moss Lipow, Eddie Borgo, John Patrick and Alejandro Ingelmo, whose eyewear, jewelry, clothing and shoes will be featured in a six-page advert in Vogue, along with a display at Art Basel Miami Beach in early December. These pieces will be auctioned off at the show, with proceeds going to the Council of Fashion Designers of America/Vogue Fashion Fund (CFDA).
