Leah Denbok Captures Emotive Images of Those Living on the Street

Capturing emotive and raw images of those experiencing homelessness, photographer Leah Denbok aims to give visibility to a group that is often forgotten and discriminated against. The 18-year old photographer who is based in Collingwood, Ontario approaches those living on the street alongside her dad and pays each of her subjects $10 to take their picture. Additionally, before the photography process, Denbok ensures that each person she is capturing signs a consent form.

Compiling her images in a book -- Stories of the Homeless, Volume One -- which was released this past November, Leah Denbok is set to release a second volume this summer, and a third this coming winter. The young artist's unique work captures unposed and candid subjects and is primarily displayed in black and white.

"I try my best to portray people experiencing homelessness with dignity," says the artist whose exhibit Leah Denbok: Photographer of the Homeless is currently on display at the Old Town Hall in Newmarket, Ontario until September 12th.
