Cut-Out Foliage Fonts

The Leaf Type is a Handmade Natural Typeface by Mei Linn Chan

Mei Linn Chan came up with a way for fallen leaves to be put to good use, he created Leaf Type.

Essentially, the Malaysian designer cut out geometric formations in the leaves. A letter or number appears in the center of the foliage. The process is meticulous and similar to creating a paper snowflake. The end result is a charmingly framed natural alphabet figure. Not only does Chan’s project result in a leaf that is extraordinarily detailed, but the letter or number that is extracted from the leaf becomes another font.

Therefore, Leaf Type is so much more than the silhouette of sliced spaces on a natural green canvas. It is also the smooth numbers that are cut out.
