The Layover with a Local app allows travelers and locals to sign-up and receive notifications that connect them with one another. Since locals have the best insight on places to see and things to do, the app provides instant relief from stuffy airports -- and provides an exciting adventure for travelers.

This clever idea is a great way to reduce boredom during a layover, encourage overlooked exploration opportunities and connect people with new friends. While the app could potentially expand, it is only currently available for travelers who have a six hour (or longer) layover in Schiphol.
