Simone Giertz Introduces the Laundry Chair to Hold Clothing Naturally

— April 8, 2026 — Art & Design
The Laundry Chair by Simone Giertz is a wooden chair designed to hold worn clothing while remaining usable as seating. The piece was developed through her design studio Yetch Studio and features a rotating secondary arm that extends from the frame. The curved rail can be turned forward to hang garments or rotated behind the chair to clear the seat.

The structure uses a solid hardwood frame with upholstered cushioning in low-pile corduroy. A ball-bearing mechanism supports the rotating rail, allowing it to move smoothly around the seat. Clothing can be draped across the arm to air out while remaining separated and visible. The chair maintains a standard seating form when the rail is rotated away, keeping the central cushion unobstructed. The design was introduced through a Kickstarter release and produced as part of Giertz’s Yetch product line.

Trend Themes
1. Multi-functional Furniture - Blending seating and garment management in a single object reveals opportunities for products that reduce household clutter while preserving primary function.
2. Integrated Clothing Storage - Adaptive rails and discreet hang systems create potential for everyday furniture to serve as temporary airing and staging zones for worn garments.
3. Mechanized Minimalism - Smooth, low-profile moving components embedded in simple forms point to a future where subtle mechanical features enhance utility without adding visual complexity.
Industry Implications
1. Home Furnishings - Designs that combine comfort and storage could reshape consumer expectations for living-room and bedroom pieces that perform multiple household roles.
2. Furniture Manufacturing - Precision hardware like ball-bearing rotation mechanisms introduces new requirements for supply chains and production techniques focused on integrated moving parts.
3. Crowdfunding Retail - Platforms that validate niche hybrid products may accelerate small-batch launches and community-driven development of unconventional home goods.
