Modular Laptop Upgrades

Framework Upgrades the Laptop 16 with a Swappable RTX 5070 GPU Module

Framework upgrades its Laptop 16 with a swappable RTX 5070 GPU module that brings desktop-level performance to a modular machine. The new expansion bay houses an 8 GB GPU based on Nvidia’s Blackwell architecture, delivering up to 40 percent more power than the previous Radeon RX 7700S option. Users can install or replace the GPU themselves, making this one of the few laptops to combine portability with serious graphics flexibility.

The update also includes a new mainboard featuring AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 series processors, improved cooling, a 165 Hz G-Sync display, and a 240 watt USB-C charging system. All upgrades maintain compatibility with earlier models, preserving Framework’s commitment to repairable design. The RTX 5070 module is sold separately, giving users the option to scale their performance over time. This release shows how modular laptops are finally catching up to desktop-level specs without sacrificing mobility or sustainability.
