Iron Galaxy's 2013 fighting game 'Killer Instinct' has received a major update and a new version titled 'Killer Instinct Anniversary Edition' to celebrate 10 years of the game. This update brings a number of changes to the monetization structure of the game, with a free-to-play version now being available. Prior to this, the game retailed for $29.99 USD in order to purchase the complete game with all fighters and maps included. Now, the free-to-play version grants access to the game and its many game modes, but free players will need to select from a weekly rotation of fighters, and will have to play the game to earn currency to slowly purchase more characters.
For players who purchased the game prior to this release, they will automatically be upgraded to the paid version of the Anniversary Edition which includes all fighters and game modes, as well as additional accessories, EXP boosts, and currency boosts that are permanently enabled. The new version of the game is available now on Xbox, Xbox for PC, and Steam.
