A group of students and researchers at Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s Institute of Textiles and Clothing recently came up with a shape-shifting mannequin called 'i.Dummy.' Although companies have been working on improving the fitting process for many years, mannequins have changed relatively little over the years. Now there is a device that can be used to show how clothing would fit on many different body types.
i.Dummy is a smart device that changes its shape so that designers can create custom-fit clothing for people of all sizes. The device is able to change its size by gathering measurement data from a 3D body scanner and then changing its proportions accordingly. The mannequin can adjust its measurements in just minutes, giving consumers a physical avatar for fitting garments of all shapes and sizes.
