Open-Interiors Concrete Care Homes

Max Núñez Arquitectos Designs the Hogar Alemán Care Home

Local design studio Max Núñez Arquitectos designed the Hogar Alemán private hospital and care home in Chile. It is defined by its open interiors which are meant to reduce maintenance and create a seamless connection with the park to form a sense of community for the elderly. The care home is nestled in northern Santiago and features four stories centered around a pavilion-like structure with a large skylight.

Núnez shares the design process, stating "The driving idea of the designs was to create a sense of community among people who may not know themselves and who are trying to battle loneliness. Many have to establish new links of friendship and proximity with new neighbours. So the whole point of the building is to create these new spaces for connection among the inhabitants."
