Reopened Theatre Restorations

Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation Preserves the Hillside Theatre

Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation reopens the Hillside Theatre in Wisconsin following an extensive restoration project that took place over five years. It is located in Taliesin and now opened as a more formal 'playhouse' since 1932. It is nestled inside of the city's Hillside Home School building along the southern side of the structure. It's latest version is comprised of two banks of red theatre seating that are resting on stone steps facing one another.

The director of preservation at Taliesin for the Frank Llyod Wright Foundation, Ryan Hewson explains the design process. He notes, "Restoring the Hillside Theater has been a labor of love, preserving its historical essence while integrating modern practices to ensure the space can be enjoyed for years to come. By addressing structural issues, enhancing accessibility and updating the theatre for present-day performances, Taliesin can continue to serve as a vibrant cultural site for future generations."
