Higher-Butterfat Supermarket Butters

Tillamook Pitches Its Extra Creamy Butter as a Kerrygold Swap

Tillamook's 'Extra Creamy Butter' offers a richer alternative to Kerrygold Irish Butter for those seeking a more affordable swap for toast and baking. Available in sea-salted and unsalted versions, it contains 81% butterfat, a slight increase over the 80% common in many U.S. grocery butters.

That extra fat matters most in the salted version, where Kerrygold sits at 80% butterfat and Tillamook reaches 81%. It does not fully match Irish butter, though, because Kerrygold's grass-fed milk gives it a yellower color and tangier taste.

A price close to half of Kerrygold's makes higher-butterfat butter an easier everyday buy for home cooks who want better toast or baking results without paying as much. That widens competition on the butter shelf beyond origin alone and toward texture people can taste.
