Revived Archival Furniture Designs

Herman Miller Breathes Life to Original Designs After 80 Years

Herman Miller introduces a look at its Rohde Collection, which is a range that honors its heritage and archival designs. The team brings back mid-century classic looks that celebrate the works of Gilbert Rohde, who is the first design director of the brand.

Rohde took on this role in 1932 and created iconic designs, paving the way for furniture design as a whole. He pioneered design notions such as leaning into curvaceous looks instead of straight lines and opting for more freeform shapes. Two of the notable pieces from the era are the Rohde Easy Chair and the Rohde Paldao Table -- both of these are making a comeback now after more than 80 years.
