The Heifort House by FELT architecture & design is a fully accessible, single-storey home completed in 2024 on a narrow site in Ghent for a retired couple wishing to age in place with comfort and autonomy. The plan is organised around a clear sequence of alternating served and servant spaces, supporting daily routines and future care needs within a compact footprint. Exposed cross-laminated timber (CLT) frames define the interior structure and add warmth to circulation areas, while generous openings and sculptural roof volumes introduce natural light into the depth of the plan. A modest exterior presence presented to the street retains a quiet, barn-like form that integrates with its neighbourhood context.
Three vertical roof elements punctuate the silhouette above the main living spaces and contain support functions and light wells that draw daylight from varied orientations. Within the home, a lofted sleeping area accommodates visiting grandchildren, adding an element of multi-generational use.
