Grimshaw Architects is in the process of planning a sports center in Qatar, which will be used by people of all ages. The design is more of a recreation facility than specifically being used for sports, as playgrounds will also be set up for children.
The design features canopies for people to come together and socialize too. Another point worth mentioning is the circulation throughout. As stated on DesignBoom, "from an environmental perspective, the design incorporates shading canopies, and passive programming, using the undulating topography across the site to funnel cool breezes." This is especially important in Qatar, where the temperature can rise to an unruly level. For anyone looking to relax after a hot game of basketball or soccer, these natural breezes throughout will be extremely welcome and needed.
