The Grand Depths exhibit is making its way to the Grand Arcade in Cambridge this summer thanks to a partnership with the University Museum of zoology.
The art exhibition will immerse visitors in an oceanic experience from July 18 to August 31, 2026 and will see the shopper center transformed into an underwater environment. The exhibit utilizes recycled paper materials used to achieve handcrafted aerial and ground level sculptures of both aquatic ecosystems and the marine wildlife that call them home. The exhibit will allow the mall to deliver a memorable experience for visitors this summer, while also contributing towards zoological education for children and families alike.
Marketing Manager at Grand Arcade Julie Kervadec commented on the Grand Depths exhibit saying, "At Grand Arcade, we are committed to creating innovative visitor experiences that continue to redefine what is possible in the retail sector. We are delighted to be curating this installation with our returning partners at the University Museum of Zoology to take visitors on an inspirational learning journey throughout the shopping centre and over to the Museum just a stone’s throw away."
What's Driving This Trend
- Educational Retail Immersion
- Shopping centers become informal learning venues through museum partnerships that blend family entertainment, public education, and footfall-driving experiences.
- Sustainable Paper Spectacles
- Recycled-material installations signal a shift toward low-impact experiential design that can make sustainability visible, tactile, and commercially engaging.
- Oceanic Place-making
- Marine-themed environments create destination value for malls by transforming routine retail visits into shareable cultural and ecological experiences.
Who This Affects Most
- Retail Real Estate
- Mall operators can differentiate physical spaces with immersive installations that extend dwell time and reposition shopping centers as community destinations.
- Museums and Education
- Cultural institutions gain new outreach channels when exhibits move into high-traffic commercial spaces and reach audiences beyond traditional museum settings.
