Gordie Howe International Bridge spans the Detroit River between Detroit, Michigan, and Windsor, Ontario, with an 853-meter main span that makes it the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America. Designed by AECOM chief bridge architect Erik Behrens, the crossing extends 2.5 kilometers and carries six traffic lanes alongside a dedicated pedestrian and cycling path. Twin A-shaped towers rise 220 meters above the river, supporting 216 white stay cables arranged to create shifting visual patterns while referencing the curve of a hockey stick in tribute to the bridge's namesake.
Opened to traffic on July 27, 2026, the bridge links Interstate 75 in the United States directly with Ontario's Highway 401. The CA$6.4 billion project was funded by the Canadian federal government and is expected to recover costs through toll revenue over its operating life. Public artworks by Walpole Island and Caldwell First Nation artists, Roberto Villalobos and Michael Belmore are integrated throughout the crossing.
