I thought sponsored vacation emails were the most brilliant advertising innovation on the web until I came across Gap Ad. Gap Ad is a new company that displays ads to people when they leave your website.

The Gap Ad concept may sound crazy at first, but it is actually quite genius. Site owners can choose the length of the ads, and the ads themselves will display content relevant to the site the user has clicked into. Gap Ad has a demo of its services on its site, and while the ad is a little in-your-face and obnoxious, it is still brilliant nonetheless. Internet marketers are growing increasingly more and more sophisticated, with branding in each and every corner of the Internet. I wouldn't be surprised to see branded mouse cursors or minimization tabs in a few years.
