Frida Kalho Dolls are Cute and Creative
Sophia Pelka — January 21, 2012 — Art & Design
These Frida Kalho dolls are endearingly intellectual.
The dolls are inspired by the iconic female painter, Frida Kalho. Mirroring several of her paintings, the dolls are adorned in traditional Mexican garnets and features themes from the paintings. The titles of the dolls match the painting they mimic. For example, one doll is titled 'Self Portrait With Monkeys.' Sporting the famous unibrow and forlorn expression, these toys are artistically rendered to very closely match Frida Kalho's appearance and embody the themes found in her works.
Josephine ARTiFacts Collection by Margarita Josefina honors the iconic painter with the dolls. The artist became a doll maker after the birth of her first son. Josefina's work toes the border between art and toys.
